When I arrived at my father's grave, the cemetery was almost completely dark.

I sat on the cold bench beside his headstone, holding my phone so tightly that my fingers hurt.

The photograph was still on the screen.

My husband standing beside the woman who had promised, just three months earlier, to love our son for the rest of her life.

I kept looking at the photograph, hoping that somehow the scene would change.

It didn't.

A few minutes later, headlights swept across the cemetery entrance.

Daniel had arrived.

I saw him get out of his car and look around until he spotted me. He hurried down the path, his expression filled with concern.

"Mom, what's going on? Why are we meeting here?"

I stood up, but I couldn't find the words.

He took one look at my face.

"Mom, you're crying. What happened?"

I reached for his hand.

"Daniel, I need you to promise me something."

He frowned.

"What?"

"Whatever you see tonight, please don't do anything until we've talked."

His expression became serious.

"You're frightening me."

"I know, sweetheart. I'm sorry."

I handed him my phone.

"Just watch this."

He looked down at the screen.

At first, he didn't seem to understand what he was seeing. Then his eyes moved from Mark's face to Jenna's.

He zoomed in.

His breathing changed.

"No."

The word came out as a whisper.

He watched the video.

Then he watched it again.

Finally, he lowered the phone and stared at me.

"Tell me that's not Jenna."

I wished I could.

"I saw her car arrive. I saw your father walk toward her. I took the photographs myself."

Daniel shook his head.

"No. There has to be an explanation."

"I hoped for one too."

"Maybe she needed help. Maybe Dad was giving her a ride. Maybe—"

He stopped speaking.

The photograph was still in his hand.

My son knew what I knew.

The image didn't tell us everything, but it showed enough to make the questions unbearable.

"When did you find out?" he asked.

"This afternoon. I saw a message on our shared tablet."

"What message?"

I repeated the words.

Tonight at eight. Same place. Daniel's working the night shift.

Daniel closed his eyes.

"She knew my schedule."

I nodded.

For a long moment, he stood completely still.

Then he walked to the headstone and rested one hand against the stone.

"Grandpa," he whispered, "what am I supposed to do now?"

I had no answer.

My father had been gone for six years, but I suddenly felt his absence more painfully than ever.

He had loved Daniel fiercely. If he were alive, he would have put an arm around his grandson and told him that no betrayal could determine the rest of his life.

Instead, I stood beside my son, trying to be strong enough for both of us.

Daniel turned back toward me.

"Does Dad know you saw them?"

"No."

"Does Jenna?"

"Not that I know of."

He took a deep breath.

"Then we're not going to call them tonight."

I stared at him.

"You don't want to confront them?"

"Of course I do. I want to drive over there and ask...

His voice broke.
