The nation continues to follow the tense case of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today co-host Savannah Guthrie, who vanished from her Tucson home in the early hours of February 1. Savannah recently shared a heartfelt message on Instagram: “We believe our mom is still out there.”

Authorities describe the incident as a “possible kidnapping or abduction.” The situation intensified when a ransom note surfaced on February 5, reportedly demanding $6 million in bitcoin, with a second payment deadline set for February 9 at 5 p.m. MT, according to Tucson’s ABC affiliate KGUN9.

Experts weigh in

Former CIA operative and FBI special agent Tracy Walder told Page Six, “This person definitely knows what they’re doing. This wasn’t spontaneous—they practiced and planned it.”

A potential breakthrough may lie within the ransom note itself: a real bitcoin wallet address. Bezalel Eithan Raviv, CEO of blockchain forensics firm Lionsgate Network, explained that the digital footprint could expose the suspect if investigators or even a small transaction is traced.
