Search for Nancy Guthrie Enters Second Week Amid Ransom Questions

The search for Nancy Guthrie, 84, mother of “Today” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, has now stretched beyond a week, heightening concern over her disappearance. Nancy was reportedly taken from her Tucson home between the night of Saturday, February 2, and the early morning of Sunday, February 3. Despite extensive efforts, authorities have not identified any suspects.

The case has been complicated by ransom communications. According to the Guthrie family, an initial note demanded $1 million, only to be followed by a second message escalating the demand to $6 million. The sharp increase has drawn scrutiny as investigators try to determine whether the demands are legitimate or the work of opportunists exploiting a high-profile situation.

Over the weekend, Savannah, along with her siblings Camron and Annie, issued a heartfelt public plea to whoever may be responsible.

“We received your message, and we understand,” Savannah said. “We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us, and we will pay.”

Their appeal underscores the emotional weight on the family, showing a willingness to comply in hopes of bringing Nancy home safely.

Former FBI assistant director Chris Swecker has publicly questioned the kidnapping narrative. Speaking on The Big Weekend Show, Swecker noted that sudden spikes in ransom amounts often raise red flags.
