The Chief studied it, then glanced at the officer who had called for backup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMa\u2019am, this registration matches the car\u2026 and your license is valid. Are you sure you told my officer you didn\u2019t have a license and that this wasn\u2019t your car?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She looked up innocently and nodded. \u201cOh yes, I did.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chief frowned. \u201cAnd you also told him your license was suspended?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She smiled even wider. \u201cAbsolutely.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Chief turned to the stunned officer. \u201cThat\u2019s not what I\u2019m seeing here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The officer, now bright red, said, \u201cShe told me she didn\u2019t have a license, that her license was suspended, and that the car was stolen!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The woman let out a little chuckle and patted the Chief\u2019s arm.
\u201cWell, of course I did. I figured if I told him all that, he\u2019d be too shocked to give me a speeding ticket for going 65 in a 40.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There was a long pause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then the Chief burst out laughing. One by one, the other officers started laughing too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He handed her documents back and said, \u201cMa\u2019am, that\u2019s the most creative excuse I\u2019ve heard all week. Slow it down on the road, okay? Bingo will still be there.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She winked, started the engine, and said, \u201cOh, I know, dear. But those ladies play ruthless.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And with that, she drove off at a perfectly legal 40 mph\u2026
\u2026already planning her next \u201cincident\u201d for next week\u2019s bingo night. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
