Ninety-four-year-old Grandma Ethel walked slowly into the church one afternoon and headed straight for the confession booth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She stepped inside and sat down, adjusting her hat as the little screen slid open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the other side, the priest said kindly,
\u201cWelcome, my child. What would you like to confess?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ethel cleared her throat and said,
\u201cFather, I have a confession. Last night I went out with a 22-year-old man. He took me to dinner, we danced, we laughed, and then\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She paused for dramatic effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026we went back to his place.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The priest nearly choked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He sat up straighter and asked cautiously,
\u201cAnd\u2026 did something inappropriate happen?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ethel let out a mischievous little laugh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWell, Father, let\u2019s just say we stayed up very late\u2026 talking, laughing, and enjoying ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The priest blinked in disbelief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMy child,\u201d he said slowly, \u201cI must ask\u2026 why are you confessing this?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ethel leaned closer to the screen and whispered proudly,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOh, I\u2019m not confessing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The priest frowned. \u201cYou\u2019re\u2026 not?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNope,\u201d she said cheerfully. \u201cI\u2019m just telling everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The priest sighed in relief. \u201cWell, Mrs. Ethel, you certainly surprised me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ethel chuckled and replied,
\u201cFather, when you\u2019re 94 years old, you take every chance you get to share a good story!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The priest laughed nervously and said,
\u201cWell\u2026 thank you for stopping by.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As she stood up to leave, Ethel added one last line over her shoulder:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOh, and Father?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYes, my child?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019m heading to the bakery next\u2026 I figure by the time I finish my coffee, the whole town will know!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And with that, Grandma Ethel walked out of the church with the biggest grin on her face\u2014leaving the priest shaking his head and wondering if he had just heard the most unexpected confession of his entire career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
