Kenny experimented with different styles before finding his true home in country. In 1977, he released Lucille<\/em>, a ballad that became an instant classic and earned him his first Grammy. Producer Larry Butler remembered the uncertainty before the song\u2019s release: \u201cWe both really felt this was gonna be a major country record. We didn\u2019t dream it would be what it ended up being.\u201d<\/em> The success of Lucille<\/em> was followed by another timeless hit, The Gambler<\/em>, cementing Kenny\u2019s place in music history.<\/p>\n\n\n

While Kenny married five times, he always insisted on love and respect. \u201cEvery woman I married, I really loved\u2026 I blame myself and my chosen field of music. That\u2019s why I say that music is a mistress,\u201d<\/em> he once said. His last marriage to Wanda Miller, 28 years his junior, brought him three children, including twins Jordan and Justin, born when Kenny was 66.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Family was always Kenny\u2019s priority. After retiring in 2015, he focused on spending time with his sons, even coming out of retirement briefly for The Gambler\u2019s Last Deal<\/em> tour to create memories with them. \u201cI hope my fans understand that I\u2019m a father first and a singer second\u2026 I don\u2019t want to miss it,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n\n\n

Beyond music, he built the legendary Beaver Dam Farm in Georgia, a 973-acre estate with a mansion, golf course, fishing lakes, tennis courts, swimming pools, guest houses, and an equestrian center\u2014a testament to his larger-than-life personality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his final years, Kenny\u2019s focus was simple: family, love, and leaving a legacy of memories. He prepared for his passing quietly, spending precious time with his children and saying goodbye to his lifelong friend Dolly Parton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
