A Minneapolis town hall turned chaotic this week when U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar was sprayed with an \u201cunknown substance\u201d while speaking about immigration enforcement and ICE policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The attacker, 55-year-old Anthony Kazmierczak, allegedly approached the stage with a large syringe and sprayed liquid across Omar\u2019s chest. Security quickly intervened, tackling him and taking him into custody. He was booked on suspicion of third-degree assault, and authorities say he will remain in custody as the investigation continues. Additional charges are under consideration.<\/p>\n\n\n

Online posts show support for former President Donald Trump and criticism of Democrats, including President Joe Biden. In one post, he wrote: \u201cTrump wants the US stronger and more prosperous. Stop other countries from stealing from us.\u201d<\/em> In another, he questioned historical reparations, asking: \u201cWhen will descendants of slaves pay restitution to Union soldiers\u2019 families\u2026?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Witnesses described a strong, vinegar-like smell following the attack, prompting the response of a hazmat crew. Authorities later confirmed the substance posed no health risk. Despite the incident, Omar returned to the stage and completed her speech, declining medical treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFear and intimidation doesn\u2019t work on me,\u201d Omar said. She also highlighted the role of political rhetoric, directly referencing Trump: \u201cEvery time the president has used hateful rhetoric against me and my community, my death threats skyrocket. I wouldn\u2019t need this level of security if Trump weren\u2019t obsessed with me.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

Trump dismissed the incident, calling it \u201cprobably staged,\u201d but the attack underscores growing safety concerns for elected officials. Threats against lawmakers have risen in recent years, especially after the January 6 Capitol attack. Rep. Pramila Jayapal emphasized the consequences: \u201cWe are just trying to do our jobs\u2026this has to stop.\u201d<\/em> Rep.
