The U.S. Senate on Tuesday confirmed Anne-Leigh Moe, President Donald Trump\u2019s nominee, to serve as a judge on the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. The confirmation vote passed by a margin of 53\u201346.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the vote, President Trump acknowledged the confirmation in a public statement, highlighting Moe\u2019s background in Florida\u2019s judicial system and her experience at both the appellate and trial court levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Moe has served on Florida\u2019s Second District Court of Appeal since 2022. Prior to that role, she spent nearly ten years as a circuit judge in Florida\u2019s Thirteenth Judicial Circuit, which includes Hillsborough County. Her confirmation fills an open seat on the federal bench and represents another judicial appointment finalized during Trump\u2019s presidency, as the administration continues to address vacancies within the federal court system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Amid the confirmation, attention remains on the ongoing federal government shutdown. According to political analysis shared by CNN data analyst Harry Enten, the shutdown does not appear to be having a significant negative effect on President Trump\u2019s public approval ratings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Enten compared current polling data to approval trends during the 2018\u20132019 government shutdown. At a similar stage in that earlier shutdown, Trump\u2019s approval rating had already begun to decline. In contrast, Enten noted that current polling shows Trump\u2019s net approval rating remaining stable, with a slight increase in some measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Enten also pointed out that fewer Americans currently place responsibility for the shutdown on the president compared to the earlier shutdown. During the 2018\u20132019 impasse, a clear majority of respondents attributed blame to Trump, while recent surveys suggest a more divided view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Congressional negotiations remain at a standstill. Democrats have stated they will oppose funding legislation that does not address expiring Affordable Care Act subsidies, while Republicans have not yet reached a bipartisan agreement to reopen the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With narrow margins in both chambers of Congress, passage of any short-term funding measure would require support from lawmakers across party lines. Until such an agreement is reached, the shutdown is expected to continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
