By Sunday morning, she was gone. Since then, search-and-rescue teams have canvassed the surrounding desert terrain without success.

On Monday, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed that investigators no longer believe this is a simple missing-person case.

“At this point, we believe a crime has been committed,” Sheriff Nanos said, explaining that authorities suspect Nancy was taken from her home against her will during the night. He emphasized that investigators do not believe she left voluntarily, noting her age, mobility limitations, and mental sharpness.

“We have an 84-year-old woman who went to bed and didn’t wake up in her home,” Nanos said. “We do not believe she walked out on her own.”

Evidence Raises Alarming Questions

Authorities are reviewing security footage from nearby homes and have collected what they describe as biological evidence from inside the house. Multiple outlets, citing law enforcement sources, report that blood was found inside the residence, along with possible signs of forced entry. Officials have not confirmed whose blood it may be.

Sheriff Nanos described Nancy as “sharp as a tack,” adding that her awareness and independence make the situation even more concerning.

“That tells us someone likely entered that home and removed her without permission,” he said.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is now offering a reward of up to $2,500 for photos, video, or information that leads to an arrest.

Neighbor Describes Unusual Activity

A neighbor, Morgan Brown, who lives about a quarter mile away, told Us Weekly that the normally quiet neighborhood has been shaken by the investigation. Brown reported seeing multiple dark vans with tinted windows near the home and said residents were asked to check their Ring and security cameras for anything unusual.

The area, Brown explained, is not gated and borders rugged desert terrain filled with cactus, rocks, and scrub.

“At first, there was speculation she may have wandered into the desert,” Brown said. “But she walks with a cane. It just doesn’t make sense.”

According to Brown, the neighborhood is largely made up of retirees and long-time residents, and serious crime is rare.

“You don’t hear about things like this happening here,” Brown said.

Family and Community on Edge

Authorities have stated that Nancy would not have been able to walk far on her own, reinforcing concerns that she was taken. Brown also acknowledged that Savannah Guthrie’s public profile has crossed people’s minds as the investigation continues, though no motive has been confirmed.

“It’s hard to imagine why anyone would target an 84-year-old woman,” Brown said. “It’s just horrible news.”

As of now, the investigation remains active, and officials say every available resource is being used to locate Nancy Guthrie and determine what happened.

Our thoughts remain with the Guthrie family as they wait for answers.

If you live in the Catalina Foothills area and have security footage or information from the night of January 31, authorities urge you to come forward.
