President Donald Trump has renewed his public focus on Greenland, issuing a fresh warning that has intensified diplomatic tensions between the United States and several European nations.
The remarks come despite longstanding opposition within Greenland itself. A public poll conducted last year found that roughly 85 percent of Greenland’s population does not support becoming part of the United States. Nevertheless, Trump has continued to argue that U.S. control of the Arctic territory is strategically necessary.
