Calls for Change
Locals are pushing for improved pedestrian safety on State Road 239. Parents, activists, and officials are demanding better visibility, signals, speed controls, and even a dedicated pedestrian bridge. Rosa Bertini, a nearby mother, said, “It shouldn’t take the death of a child for change. Trucks speed down that road every morning — now look at the cost.” Candlelight vigils and petitions are already underway.

Remembering Matilda
Hundreds gathered at the town’s ice rink for a silent tribute. Skaters circled slowly under dimmed lights, with a spotlight on Matilda’s empty skates and a bouquet of white roses. Coach Elena Marini spoke: “Matilda believed small-town girls could reach the world stage. Her dream won’t end here — we’ll carry it forward for her.” Parents, teammates, and friends shared memories, skating to her competition music as a haunting farewell.

Her Lasting Legacy
Donations have already funded the Matilda Ferrari Memorial Scholarship, supporting young skaters from rural areas with travel, equipment, and coaching. Marini added, “Matilda wasn’t just talented — she was relentless, kind, and selfless. Her story will remind people what passion looks like.”

A Loss Felt Deeply
In Giustino, every corner echoes her absence — her laughter, her training notes, her skates. The investigation continues, but for those who knew her, the memory of Matilda gliding across the ice — confident, determined, and full of dreams — is forever etched in their hearts. She will always stay fifteen, a champion in spirit if not in life.
