Renee, 37, was shot and killed by ICE agent Jonathan Ross in Minneapolis on January 7, sparking national outrage. Protests erupted as communities mourned a mother whose life and story stood in sharp contrast to the way it ended.

At a recent House Judiciary Committee hearing, Rep. Eric Swalwell shared images from her car, showing what she carried that day. No weapons, no threat—just the everyday items of a mother on the go.

“She had a baby to go home to,” Swalwell said. “A six-year-old now orphaned, who lost his father two years ago. She was 37, a mom with three kids—not a terrorist.”

The SUV contained stuffed animals and small, everyday items, a glimpse into the life of someone raising a family and trying to do good in her community. Swalwell confronted supporters of the shooting: “You want to cheer for her being shot in the face three times?”
