At first glance, a hospital room may seem like one of the easiest places to understand visually. Everything has a familiar purpose: a patient, medical staff, equipment, charts, and a clock keeping track of the time.

But familiar scenes can sometimes make us less observant, not more.

Our brains are remarkably efficient at processing information. Instead of examining every individual detail around us, we often rely on expectations and familiar patterns to understand what we see quickly. This allows us to navigate everyday environments without consciously analyzing everything in front of us.
