A routine afternoon walk through a Cedar Falls park took an unexpected turn when a young mother noticed that both of her toddlers were experiencing concerning symptoms.
Rather than waiting to see whether the symptoms would pass, she carried her daughters to a nearby fire station, where trained first responders were able to assess them quickly.
According to the Cedar Falls Fire Department, the incident occurred Tuesday afternoon shortly after 4 p.m. Emma Lowell, 27, arrived at the station with her two daughters and reported that the children had begun coughing, rubbing their eyes, and appearing dizzy while the family was outdoors.
Because the fire station was only a short distance from the park, firefighters were able to begin evaluating the children soon after they arrived.
Symptoms Appeared During a Park Visit
The family had reportedly been walking through a neighborhood park when the girls spent time near vegetation along a path.
The outing had been uneventful until both children began displaying symptoms around the same time. Lowell did not know what had triggered the reaction, but she recognized that the children needed to be evaluated.
