Tanker Blast Raises Hard Questions After Deadly Commute

A normal morning drive toward Mexico City turned into a disaster when a tanker carrying liquefied petroleum gas overturned and exploded, sending flames across a busy highway packed with commuters.

The blast struck during rush hour, when parents, workers, motorcyclists, and commercial vehicles were already crowded along one of the major routes linking eastern communities with the capital. Within moments, traffic became a scene of fire, smoke, and desperate escape.

Authorities have confirmed multiple deaths and dozens of injuries. Hospitals in the region received victims with severe burns, smoke inhalation, and other traumatic injuries as families searched for information about relatives who had been traveling that morning.

A Routine Commute Became a Fight to Escape

Witnesses described a sudden, thunderous explosion followed by a wave of heat and smoke. Some nearby residents said the force was strong enough to shake homes, leading them at first to think an earthquake had occurred.
