Most driving risks do not begin with a dramatic warning. Sometimes they start with something as ordinary as walking up to your parked car and noticing an object near a tire.
A plastic bottle wedged between a tire and the wheel well may look like random litter, and in most cases, that is exactly what it is. But drivers are being reminded that an unexpected object around a vehicle can also create a moment of distraction, especially if it makes a loud cracking or scraping sound once the car begins to move.
Why a Small Object Can Create a Risk
The concern is not that the bottle itself is dangerous. The issue is how a driver may react.
If someone hears a strange noise coming from the wheel area, the natural response is to stop, step out, and check the tire. In that brief moment, a driver may leave the engine running, keep the doors unlocked, or leave a phone, purse, wallet, laptop, or other valuables visible inside the vehicle.
