A late-night trip home from university classes became a scene of grief in São Paulo state after a bus carrying students from the University of Franca collided with a truck near Nuporanga, leaving families and an academic community searching for answers.
Authorities confirmed that 12 people died at the crash site and 21 others were taken to hospitals after the collision. Several of the injured were reported to have serious injuries and remained under medical care as emergency teams and local hospitals responded to the sudden demand for treatment.
The students had been returning from evening classes when the crash occurred on the highway. Firefighters, police officers, and medical teams were sent to the area, where rescuers worked through the damaged vehicles to reach passengers and provide urgent care before survivors were transported for further treatment.

The University of Franca expressed sorrow after the crash and announced psychological support for students, faculty, staff, and relatives of those affected. Counseling services were made available as classmates and families began facing the scale of the loss.
