Eric Dane’s Final Months Revealed a Different Kind of Strength

Eric Dane, the actor whose work on Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria made him familiar to millions of viewers, died on February 19, 2026, at age 53 after living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly known as ALS.

His death came less than a year after he publicly shared his diagnosis in April 2025. According to a statement from his family, Dane spent his final days with close friends, his wife Rebecca Gayheart, and their daughters, Billie and Georgia.

The family also remembered how he used the final chapter of his life to bring more attention to ALS and support research into the progressive neurological disease.

A Television Star With Two Defining Roles

For many viewers, Dane will always be linked to Dr. Mark Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy. The character, famously nicknamed “McSteamy,” became one of the long-running medical drama’s most recognizable figures.
