Residents of Columbus, Ohio were left stunned Tuesday evening after an intense storm rolled through the area, bringing unusually large hail that quickly blanketed streets, yards, and parking lots. What began as a typical rainy afternoon suddenly turned dramatic when powerful winds swept across the town and thick clouds darkened the sky. Within minutes, chunks of ice began falling rapidly, striking rooftops, cars, and sidewalks as people rushed indoors to avoid the sudden barrage.
Witnesses described the sound of hail hitting homes as “deafening,” with many saying it felt like the entire neighborhood was under a pounding drumbeat. Some of the hailstones were reported to be as large as golf balls, while others appeared even bigger when collected from the ground. After the storm passed, entire lawns looked as though they had been covered in scattered white stones, creating a surreal scene across parts of the city.
