I Thought There Was a Worm in My Ground Beef—Then I Looked Closer
I thought I was about to sit down and enjoy dinner. Instead, one look at my plate made me want to push it away.
Right in the middle of the cooked ground beef was a strange, twisted piece that looked remarkably like a tiny worm. It didn’t move, but it definitely didn’t look like ordinary meat either.
For a moment, I wondered if I’d somehow discovered something alive in my dinner.
Rather than immediately throwing everything away, I took a photo and zoomed in for a closer look. The more I examined the strange piece, the less it resembled an actual worm. There were no obvious segments, legs, or other features you’d expect from an insect or parasite.
Eventually, the mystery had a much simpler explanation.
The unusual-looking strand was most likely connective tissue, fat, or tendon that had changed shape during cooking.
