If you were a child or teenager during the 1950s, 1960s, or 1970s, there’s a good chance you may recognize this unusual-looking object.
At first glance, it might be mistaken for an old-fashioned woodworking tool or some kind of mechanical device. Its metal construction and unusual shape can certainly make it difficult to identify today.
But this nostalgic item actually had a much more playful purpose.
The Roller Skates of a Bygone Era
These were old-fashioned roller skates, designed quite differently from the modern skates many people know today.
Instead of wearing a complete boot with wheels attached, these vintage skates featured a sturdy metal base with leather straps.
The skater would place the device over their regular shoes and secure it in place with the straps.
