Popular Potato Chip Brands Recall Select Bags Over Potential Salmonella Risk
Before you tear into your next snack, it may be worth checking the label. A well-known U.S. snack company has announced a voluntary food recall for specific potato chip products due to concerns about a possible Salmonella contamination linked to a seasoning ingredient.
What’s being recalled—and why it matters
According to information posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Utz Quality Foods is recalling certain potato chips sold under the Zapp’s and Dirty brands. The issue is tied to a seasoning that contains dry milk powder, which may have been contaminated with Salmonella bacteria.
Utz noted that the seasoning batches reportedly tested negative before being used. Even so, the company is moving forward “out of an abundance of caution” after being notified that the ingredient supply chain could pose a risk.
Are there any reported illnesses?
As of the latest update, no illnesses have been reported. Still, public health guidance is clear: if you have one of the affected products, do not eat it. Consumers should discard the chips or return them to the place of purchase for a refund, depending on the retailer’s policy.
