Mr. Henderson asked to see the watch immediately.
The moment I stepped into his office, something about his expression changed. He took the old watch from my hand and examined it with extraordinary care, turning it over slowly as though he already knew exactly what he was looking for.
Then his thumb found it.
A tiny notch along the side.
So small I had never noticed it.

Hidden inside was a narrow strip of paper, folded tightly and brittle with age. My hands began to shake as Mr. Henderson carefully unfolded it.
The handwriting was unmistakable.
My father’s.
But this wasn’t a final goodbye or a sentimental message.
It contained a set of coordinates, the name of a bank, and a numbered account.
Then, at the bottom, one final line:
“For Ashton, when everyone else shows their true face.”
The room went silent.
What Mr. Henderson revealed next changed everything.
Years earlier, my father had quietly moved the majority of his assets—including investments, cash reserves, and the deed to a small coastal property—into a private trust connected to that account.
