Born Vickie Lynn Hogan in Texas, Anna did not grow up surrounded by wealth or privilege. Her early years were marked by financial difficulties and instability, and she dreamed of escaping the limitations of her circumstances.
She left school young and married Billy Smith at 17. The couple had a son, Daniel, but the marriage eventually ended, leaving Anna as a young mother trying to build a life for herself and her child.
She worked a series of modestly paid jobs, including at Walmart, before eventually taking a job as a dancer at a Houston club.
