And the “mystery” was solved in about ten seconds.
Turns out, it wasn’t anything dangerous at all. A while back, he had used expanding foam insulation around a sewer pipe in the ceiling above the bathroom. Over time, a loose piece had broken off, dropped down, and picked up dust and grime on the way—making it look far more alarming than it really was.
So after all that stress, it was just an old chunk of expanding foam that decided to scare me at the worst possible moment.
