It seemed like a completely harmless decision.
A guy wanted to cool something down quickly, so he put it in the freezer and went about his business. He had no reason to think anything unusual would happen.
Then came the explosion.
The container suddenly ruptured inside the freezer, sending broken pieces flying. One of the fragments struck him in the face, leaving a deep cut that eventually required eight stitches.
What makes the incident frightening is how ordinary the decision seemed.
Most people think of a freezer as one of the safest places in the kitchen. You put food inside, close the door, and forget about it until everything is cold.
But freezing can create pressure, expand liquids, and make certain containers brittle. When something isn’t designed to withstand those conditions, a simple attempt to chill it can turn into a serious accident.
