Just before dawn, passengers aboard the Millat Express were sleeping as the train moved through southern Pakistan. For many, it was an ordinary journey—a quiet ride through the darkness with no warning that everything was about to change.
At around 3:40 a.m., disaster struck near Ghotki.
Several coaches of the Millat Express derailed and overturned, sending passengers into confusion and leaving wreckage across the railway tracks. Families who had been asleep moments earlier suddenly found themselves facing a terrifying emergency in the darkness.
But the derailment was only the beginning.
Another passenger train, the Sir Syed Express, was traveling along the same route. Before its crew could fully react to the wreckage ahead, the train collided with the derailed coaches. The impact transformed an already serious accident into a much larger disaster.
More than 1,100 passengers were reportedly caught up in the incident, turning the remote stretch of railway into a massive rescue scene.
