Internal DHS Data Shows Small Share of ICE Arrests Involved Violent Criminal Records

Newly obtained internal figures from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) show that a relatively small portion of immigrants arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during President Donald Trump’s second term had violent criminal records, according to reporting by CBS News.

The data, drawn from an internal DHS document reviewed by CBS, covers ICE enforcement activity from January 2025 through the end of January 2026. It indicates that fewer than 14% of nearly 400,000 people taken into ICE custody during that period had been charged with or convicted of violent offenses.
