U.S. Soldier Killed Just Days Before Returning Home to Family

Sgt. 1st Class Nicole Amor: Honoring a Hero Lost in Operation Epic Fury

Tragic news has shaken the U.S. military community. Sgt. 1st Class Nicole Amor, 39, of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, was among six American service members killed in an Iranian drone strike at Port Shuaiba, Kuwait.

A Soldier Just Days From Home

Nicole Amor had been eagerly counting down the days to return home to her family. Her husband, Joey Amor, shared with CBS:

“She was almost home… You don’t go to Kuwait thinking something’s going to happen, and for her to be one of the first—it hurts.”

The couple had spoken just hours before the strike, exchanging texts about a small mishap the night prior. Joey recalled,

“She just never responded in the morning.”

Facing Danger With Courage

Just a week before the deadly strike, Nicole had been moved from the main base to a makeshift, shipping container-style building, part of a plan to disperse personnel amid fears of an attack. Joey explained,

“They felt it was safer in smaller groups in separate places.”
