Beloved British actress Jane Lapotaire, known to many viewers for her roles in The Crown and Downton Abbey, has died at the age of 81. Her passing was confirmed by the Royal Shakespeare Company, which honored her remarkable contributions to theatre and television.

A Distinguished Career on Stage
Born Jane Burgess on December 26, 1944, in Ipswich, England, Lapotaire discovered her passion for acting during her teenage years. She trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, where she developed the foundation for a career that would span more than six decades.

Her early work began in theatre, including time spent behind the scenes as an assistant stage manager before stepping fully into acting. She made her professional stage debut in 1965 and quickly established herself as a talented and committed performer.
