Beloved British actress Jane Lapotaire, known to many viewers for her roles in The Crown and Downton Abbey, has died at the age of 81. Her passing was confirmed by the Royal Shakespeare Company, which honored her remarkable contributions to theatre and television.

According to the company, Lapotaire died on March 5. While no cause of death has been publicly shared, tributes have poured in recognizing her decades-long impact on the performing arts.

A Distinguished Career on Stage

Born Jane Burgess on December 26, 1944, in Ipswich, England, Lapotaire discovered her passion for acting during her teenage years. She trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, where she developed the foundation for a career that would span more than six decades.
