I had just been discharged from the hospital with our newborn daughter when something happened that made me see my marriage very differently.
Two days after giving birth, I was standing outside the hospital entrance holding our baby, still recovering and exhausted from labor. My husband, Brian, looked at his watch and explained that he needed the car because his family was waiting for him at a dinner reservation across town.
He pointed to the bus stop across the street and suggested I take public transportation home.
At first, I thought he was joking. I had barely slept in days and was still healing, so the idea seemed unbelievable. But his expression didn’t change.
