Trump Critiques Press Coverage, Takes a Jab at Press Secretary in Oval Office
Donald Trump made headlines again during a Tuesday press briefing in the Oval Office, turning his attention not only to the media but also to his own White House Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt. Known for his blunt style, Trump didn’t hold back, delivering a mix of humor, critique, and his trademark combative stance toward the press.
The president opened by addressing what he sees as overwhelmingly negative coverage. “I got 93 percent bad publicity,” Trump told reporters, later noting, “Some people say 97, but between 93 and 97.” These figures set the tone for a wide-ranging critique of the media and his own team.
A Playful Jab at Karoline Leavitt
Trump’s comments quickly turned to Leavitt. “A person that gets 97 percent—maybe Karoline’s doing a poor job, I don’t know,” he said, before adding bluntly: “You’re doing a terrible job.” While the remark might have raised eyebrows, Trump softened the tone shortly after, joking about her role and concluding, “Should we keep her? I think we’ll keep her.”
The playful nature of the critique did little to obscure the broader point Trump wanted to make: he believes both his press team and the media face an uphill battle in conveying his side of the story.
