The girl smiled proudly once again.
“Happy Butt!”
The principal paused, clearly trying to process what he had just heard. After a deep sigh, he picked up the phone and called the child’s mother to figure out the misunderstanding.
A few moments later, after finishing the conversation, he hung up and leaned toward the little girl with a patient smile.
“Honey,” he explained gently, “your name is Gladys… not Happy Butt.”
The little girl stared at him for a moment before breaking into a huge grin.
Then, loud enough for the office staff to hear, she shouted:
“Glad Ass, Happy Butt — what’s the difference?!”
The office reportedly erupted with laughter as even the principal struggled to keep a straight face.
Sometimes the funniest moments come from the innocence of children, who see the world through simple honesty and logic adults would never expect. While the school may have spent the rest of the day laughing about the misunderstanding, the little girl probably walked away completely unaware that she had just become a legend on her very first day.
