A Simple Finger Position Many Believe Can Support Calm and Mindful Focus

One of the best-known mudras is Gyan Mudra, a simple gesture where the tip of the index finger touches the tip of the thumb, forming a small circle, while the other fingers stay relaxed and extended.

You may have seen people using this hand position during meditation, yoga, or breathing exercises. It looks simple, but many practitioners believe it can support calmness, focus, and a clearer state of mind.

What Is Gyan Mudra?

The word “Gyan” comes from Sanskrit and means knowledge or wisdom. The word “mudra” means gesture or seal. Together, Gyan Mudra is often described as the gesture of knowledge.
