Federal Authorities Arrest Man Allegedly Planning Attack on Border Patrol Official

Federal law enforcement officials in Illinois have arrested a man accused of plotting to harm a senior U.S. Border Patrol official, highlighting the risks faced by law enforcement officers in sensitive positions.

The Alleged Plot

Authorities say Juan Espinoza Martinez, 37, of Burr Ridge, Illinois, allegedly offered cash rewards for information about Gregory Bovino, a senior Border Patrol commander, and even larger sums for anyone who would carry out an attack. Martinez is accused of using social media, including Snapchat, to coordinate the plan.
