Tragic Super Bowl Sunday Crash Sparks Criminal Investigation
A heated argument on Super Bowl Sunday 2025 turned deadly for 22-year-old Daniel Waterman of Syracuse, New York. Traveling with his pregnant girlfriend, Leigha Mumby, along Interstate 95 in Flagler County, Florida, what started as a dispute inside the car quickly escalated—and the vehicle veered off the road, colliding with a tree.
Waterman’s Final Words
Waterman survived the crash initially but suffered critical injuries. While briefly conscious, he communicated with investigators, using a whiteboard when speaking was too difficult. He recounted the moments leading up to the accident, highlighting the tension and reporting a chilling remark: “I don’t care what happens. You’ll get what you deserve.”
Despite his injuries, Mumby and the baby survived. Tragically, Waterman died on October 8, 2025, from complications tied to the crash.
Investigation and Legal Action
Investigators reviewed Waterman’s account, including details about an argument triggered by Mumby revealing her pregnancy and a text he received from a New York contact. He described the vehicle swerving and his failed attempt to exit before impact.
Following the crash, Mumby was arrested and initially charged with reckless driving and aggravated battery. After Waterman’s death, charges were upgraded to vehicular homicide.
