I stared at him, unable to breathe.
Every instinct told me to scream, to run, to demand answers right there in the aisle. But the look in Karl’s eyes stopped me. He wasn’t calm—he was terrified.
“Please,” he said quietly, staring straight ahead. “Just listen. If you react, we could both be in danger.”
My hands shook so badly I had to grip the edge of the seat.
