Adrian Cole, a 36-year-old tech entrepreneur, stood in disbelief on the driveway of his sprawling stone mansion. His luxury car idled nearby, but he barely noticed it.
On the front lawn, his seven-year-old daughter, Lily, sat in her wheelchair. Since an accident four years ago, she had been unable to move her legs.
Next to her was Emily, the family’s new teenage housemaid, holding a garden hose. Cold water streamed over Lily.
“What are you doing?!” Adrian shouted as he ran across the lawn.
