What should have been a routine departure ended in catastrophe within moments. A private jet connected to a Houston-based law firm crashed during takeoff at Bangor International Airport, killing all six people on board and sending shockwaves far beyond Maine.
The aircraft, a Bombardier Challenger 600, was attempting to depart as Winter Storm Fern battered the region with snow and icy conditions. According to air traffic control recordings, concerns escalated rapidly as the jet struggled along the snow-covered runway. Seconds later, the aircraft lost control, flipped, and erupted into flames. Emergency crews responded immediately, but the impact left no chance for survival.
Among the victims was Tara Arnold, a respected attorney and the wife of one of the law firm’s co-founders. Colleagues described her as dedicated, compassionate, and deeply committed to both her work and her family. Also killed was Jacob Hosmer, an experienced pilot remembered by friends as calm, skilled, and generous under pressure. Four additional passengers—each with their own personal and professional legacies—were also lost in the crash.
While the firm’s leadership and Arnold’s husband were not aboard the flight, the sudden loss has devastated families, coworkers, and friends, leaving many struggling to comprehend how quickly lives were taken.
