The rodeo world and the tight-knit community of Lott, Texas, are in shock after the heartbreaking loss of 18-year-old Ace Patton Ashford. Known for his incredible skill in roping and his humble, hardworking nature, Ace passed away on August 12 following a tragic horse-related accident.
The incident occurred while Ace was tending to a sick calf on his family’s property. In an unexpected and devastating twist, his leg became tangled, and a nearby horse dragged him across an open field. Despite the quick response of emergency services and being airlifted to Baylor Scott & White Hospital, Ace succumbed to severe head injuries.
Ace’s journey in rodeo began when he was just four years old, and his natural talent quickly turned him into a rising star. Over the years, he earned top honors in major competitions, impressing everyone with both his technical skill and fearless dedication. Friends and family remember him as a young man who approached every challenge with determination, humility, and an unwavering love for the sport.
Graduating from Rosebud-Lott High School, Ace was preparing to take the next step in his rodeo career by joining Hill College’s rodeo team this fall. For many in his community, he was more than a competitor – he was a role model and an inspiration to younger riders, proving that hard work, passion, and focus could turn dreams into reality.
