“That tells us someone likely entered that home and removed her without permission,” he said.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is now offering a reward of up to $2,500 for photos, video, or information that leads to an arrest.
Neighbor Describes Unusual Activity
A neighbor, Morgan Brown, who lives about a quarter mile away, told Us Weekly that the normally quiet neighborhood has been shaken by the investigation. Brown reported seeing multiple dark vans with tinted windows near the home and said residents were asked to check their Ring and security cameras for anything unusual.
The area, Brown explained, is not gated and borders rugged desert terrain filled with cactus, rocks, and scrub.
“At first, there was speculation she may have wandered into the desert,” Brown said. “But she walks with a cane. It just doesn’t make sense.”
According to Brown, the neighborhood is largely made up of retirees and long-time residents, and serious crime is rare.
“You don’t hear about things like this happening here,” Brown said.
Family and Community on Edge
Authorities have stated that Nancy would not have been able to walk far on her own, reinforcing concerns that she was taken. Brown also acknowledged that Savannah Guthrie’s public profile has crossed people’s minds as the investigation continues, though no motive has been confirmed.
“It’s hard to imagine why anyone would target an 84-year-old woman,” Brown said. “It’s just horrible news.”
As of now, the investigation remains active, and officials say every available resource is being used to locate Nancy Guthrie and determine what happened.
