Family Vacation Ends in Tragedy After Devastating Crash on France’s A7 Motorway

What was meant to be the start of a joyful family vacation turned into an unimaginable tragedy when a devastating road accident claimed the lives of five children on France’s A7 motorway. The heartbreaking incident left an entire community grieving and prompted a detailed investigation into what caused the fatal crash.

The accident occurred on July 20, 2020, near Albon in the Drôme region as an extended family from Vénissieux was traveling south for a long-awaited holiday. According to authorities, nine family members were traveling in a Renault Grand Scénic, a vehicle designed to seat seven passengers.

Emergency responders arrived to find a devastating scene after the vehicle left the motorway and caught fire. Despite their rapid response, five children lost their lives in the accident, while four other family members suffered serious injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment.

Investigators believe the driver experienced a serious mechanical problem moments before losing control of the vehicle. According to statements provided to authorities, the driver reported experiencing brake failure shortly before the crash.
