Noelia Castillo Ramos, 25, chose euthanasia after enduring years of intense physical and emotional pain. A Life Altered by Trauma
Noelia’s life changed dramatically after a traumatic assault, followed by a suicide attempt from a fifth-floor window. She survived but was left paraplegic, facing relentless pain every day. Despite ongoing medical care and her family’s support, she remained steadfast in her wish to end her suffering. In a Spanish TV interview, she said:
“I was very clear about it from the beginning. All the pain I’ve suffered over the years… I just want to leave in peace now and stop suffering, full stop.”

Legal Challenges and Court Approval
Her father fought to prevent the euthanasia, hoping to preserve her life. However, Spain’s Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights upheld Noelia’s choice under the 2021 euthanasia law, which permits assisted dying in cases of severe and enduring suffering.
