The nun calmly turned to him and said,
“Father… remember Psalm 129.”
Startled, the priest immediately pulled his hand back and cleared his throat.
“Of course, Sister. My apologies.”
They drove on in silence for a while.
But temptation got the better of him again. As he shifted gears, his hand wandered slightly once more.
Without raising her voice, the nun repeated,
“Father… remember Psalm 129.”
This time, the priest straightened up completely, keeping both hands firmly on the wheel.
“I’m sorry, Sister,” he said. “The spirit is willing, but sometimes… human nature gets in the way.”
The rest of the drive passed quietly.
When they finally arrived at the convent, the nun stepped out, gave him a polite nod, and said,
“Good evening, Father.”
He watched her walk inside, then let out a long sigh of relief.
But curiosity began to nag at him.
“What exactly does Psalm 129 say?” he wondered.
As soon as he returned to the church, he hurried inside, grabbed a Bible, and flipped through the pages until he found it.
He read it carefully… then froze.
It said:
“Go forward, seek higher things… and you shall find glory.”
The priest closed the book slowly.
A small smile crept across his face as he shook his head.
“Well,” he muttered to himself,
“I really should have looked that up sooner…”
