The sheriff, known for his sense of humor, couldn’t resist making a comment.
“Well, Pastor,” he replied, “I thought it was your job to take care of situations like that.”
Without missing a beat, the pastor calmly answered:
“Of course, Sheriff—but I always make sure to notify the family first.”
There was a brief silence on the line.
Then the sheriff let out a laugh.
“Alright, Pastor,” he said, “you got me there.”
But the pastor wasn’t quite finished.
“And since I’ve already reached the family,” he added gently, “I figured you might also want to come by and help with the arrangements.”
The sheriff chuckled again, shaking his head.
“You know,” he said, “I think I just walked right into that one.”
