A highway patrol officer was parked on the roadside when he noticed a car crawling along at just 22 mph.
“That’s just as risky as speeding,” he thought, turning on his lights to pull the vehicle over.
As he approached, he saw five elderly women inside—two in the front, three in the back—all looking unusually tense.
The driver rolled down her window and said, “Officer, I don’t understand. I was driving exactly the speed limit!”
The officer smiled and explained, “Ma’am, driving too slowly can also be dangerous for others on the road.”
She looked confused. “Too slow? But I was going 22 miles per hour, just like the sign said!”
Trying not to laugh, the officer clarified, “That ‘22’ isn’t the speed limit—it’s the route number.”
Realizing her mistake, the woman laughed and thanked him.
Before letting them go, the officer asked, “Is everyone okay? They all look a bit shaken.”
The driver nodded. “Oh, they’ll be fine… we just came off Route 119.”
