Trump Directs Funds to Ensure Military Pay Amid Government Shutdown

President Donald Trump has instructed Secretary of the Army Pete Hegseth to use available funds to ensure U.S. service members are paid on October 15, despite an ongoing government shutdown that has put federal paychecks at risk.

The federal government shutdown began on October 1 after Congress did not pass a funding bill. The lapse in funding has affected more than 1.3 million active-duty service members, along with hundreds of thousands of federal employees.
