In Portsmouth, Virginia, what began as an ordinary emergency response call for Firefighter Mark Reynolds turned into a moment that would forever alter his life.
Station 17 was dispatched on a routine Thursday evening to a multi-vehicle collision involving several cars. With 12 years of experience behind him, Reynolds responded like he had done countless times before—focused, trained, and prepared for the unpredictable nature of the job. At that moment, it was just another call in a long shift. Nothing suggested it would become personal.
When the crew arrived at the scene, the situation was serious but controlled. Two vehicles had collided head-on, while a third had veered into a guardrail while attempting to avoid the impact.
