Protecting a child’s happiness is one of the most important responsibilities a parent has. Sometimes, however, difficult moments can arise within families themselves. For me, that realization came on my son Trevor’s birthday—a day that was supposed to be full of excitement and celebration.
Trevor had just received a new bicycle, something he had been hoping for for months. It was meant to be the highlight of his day, a symbol of growing independence and adventure. But an unexpected conflict with my parents turned that happy moment into something much more serious.
